Teen on attempted murder charge

A teenager was on Friday charged with attempted murder after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court .

The seventeen year-old of Alexander Village, Georgetown was not required to plead to the matter because it was laid indictable.

Particulars of the charge stated that on November 10,2018 at Kaneville,East Bank Demeara (EBD), the teen unlawfully wounded Ryan Sumire with intent to commit murder.

The teen was represented by Attorney-at -Law Stanley Moore who made a bail application on his client’s behalf.

Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and the penalty that it attracts and also the fact that a gun was used to commit the act.

The court heard that the young man allegedly shot the victim twice to his chest. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and admitted as a patient

Bail was refused by the magistrate and the teen was remanded to prison until December 18,2018. (Tamara Tucker)
