BREAKING: Pandit Ubraj Narine is Georgetown’s new mayor

… APNU Councillor Alfred Mentore elected Deputy-Mayor

Minutes before midday on Friday, Pandit Ubraj Narine was elected mayor of the city of Georgetown following elections at City Hall.

Narine won support of all his colleagues from the APNU. Two candidates from the coalition partner , the Alliance for Change(AFC) abstained. Narine was declared first past the post winner for Constituency #1 in the Georgetown Local Government area following this month’s Local Government Elections (LGE).He has been cited in the days leading up to the elections as the possible candidate for the post.

He replaces Patricia-Chase Green whose term in office came under the criticism from the populace.
