POLICE Commissioner Leslie James on Friday promoted several ranks during an inspection exercise in Bartica.

The police chief, his deputy commissioners and several other officers arrived at the Bartica Stelling shortly after midday and were welcomed by the Divisional Commander, Senior Superintendent Kelvin Adonis, top regional officials and a guard-of-honour.
The commissioner then inspected a parade comprising Police and Community Policing Group members that was witnessed by scores of onlookers.

Impressed with the ranks‘ turn out and bearings, Commissioner James promoted nine ranks on the spot and another an hour later at the Bartica Community Centre Ground. There, he spoke at length about the direction in which the force is heading, in respect of its reformation process which has already begun.

In a release, the police said a number of issues and concerns were raised by members in the packed auditorium, among whom were representatives from various sectors of society and who were all addressed by James and his deputies.

His Worship the Mayor of Bartica Mr Gifford Marshall and the region’s acting Regional Executive Officer Mr Holbert Knights, both in delivering brief remarks spoke highly of police’s performance and pledged to continue to lend support where necessary; Regional Chairman Mr Gordon Bradford was also present but had to leave to attend another engagement.
