GANDHI Youth Organisation (GYO) were robbed of an easy win after bad light stopped play on the eve of their victory at home against the Diplomat Sports Club on Saturday.

The team was playing a fixture of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) /New Building Society second-division 40-over cricket competition.

GYO were in total control and were chasing the last wicket of the game with Diplomats having an improbable task of winning, given that they were nine wickets down with over 200 runs to score in less than 10 overs.

Scores in the game: GYO 379-5 off 40 overs; Diplomats in reply were 170-9 off 31.3 overs before the umpires stopped play.

According to the GCA Competitions Committee chairman, Shawn Massiah, both teams will still benefit from bonus points, although the game ended as a no result.

TWO CENTURIES

The GYO batsmen feasted on the Diplomats’ bowling.  Teenager Navindra Persaud scored his maiden century at this level, while Wazir Hussain struck 141 runs.  The pair placed their opponents’ bowlers to the sword as they added 184 runs for the fourth wicket.  Hussain struck 16 fours and seven sixes, while Persaud, who hit his boundaries in clusters, finished with 17 fours and a six.

Prior to that onslaught, Treatlon Liverpool and Persaud had tallied 134 for the second wicket.  Liverpool finished with 70 (8x4s, 3x6s).

Hershun Black led Diplomats with two wickets.

In reply, the visitors were tasked with scoring 9.5 runs per over.

Several of the Diplomats’ batsmen had starts, but none went big.  A. Foster led the attack with an unbeaten 33 (4x4s), while opener Claudius Fraser supported with 26 (5x4s), Dwayne Fraser with a quickfire 22 (4x4s, 1×6), and Blackman with the same score of 22 (3x4s).

Off spinner Divesh Ramjattan led the home team’s attack with four wickets, while left-arm spinner Trevon France supported with two wickets.
