Khan further remanded, family tries desperately to settle matter

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has granted Attorney-at-Law Latchmi Rahamat fiat to prosecute the case  of Abdul  Imran Khan who is charged for attempting to murder disabled man Romario Baljeet called ‘ Short Boss’.

The 32-year-old Khan who lives at 11 Austin Street, Campbellville and who is the owner of a construction company, made another appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Prosecutor Rahamat told the court that Khan and his relatives had contacted the victim’s father to drop the case and even went as far as showing up at the victim’s home.

Romario Baljeet after he was initially hospitalised at the Woodlands Hospital.

Rahamat noted that reports have been lodged at the police station and are being investigated.

Additionally, the victim will be returning later this week to the hospital while his doctors has still listed his injuries as life threatening since he suffered from a ruptured vain in his left side face.

Khan’s attorney Glenn Hanoman and Everton Singh-Lammy made a application for bail but it was denied by the Chief Magistrate who further remanded him to prison until November 26.

According to the prosecution, on October 28,2018 around 0200hrs the virtual complainant went to the Palm Court night club where he and a friend spent an hour.

As they were about to leave, the accused and another male were standing at the gate in the path of the duo. Balgeet and his friend decided to walk between the accused and the accused dealt the victim two punches to his head and face causing him to fall down. The accused then took a glass bottle and drinking glass and smash it on the right side of the disabled man’s face , causing him to sustain injuries. He then kicked the disabled man.

The victim was picked up in a unconscious state and he was taken to the Woodlands Hospital where two surgeries were done on his face.
