Driver in custody following death of pedestrian

THE police are investigating an accident which occurred about 20:35hrs on Saturday night, resulting in the death of pedestrian Imran Khan, 36, of Droom Street Annandale North, East Coast Demerara.

According to the police, mini bus BHH 8465 was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the Good Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara, when it was alleged by the driver that the pedestrian suddenly ran across the road from south to north and collided with the left side of his minibus and fell onto the roadway.

Khan was picked up by the said driver in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the minibus, a 65 year-old resident of Cherry Lane, Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, passed a breathalyser test and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
