… Bishun nabs six, top order shine
A FINE spell of left-arm spin-bowling from former Guyana U-19 player Totaram Bishun and solid batting by the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) top order propelled the defending champions to first-day honours in the final of the GISE/Star Party Rentals/Trophy Stall First Division two-day cricket competition.
At the close of play yesterday afternoon at Eve Leary ground, DCC had amassed a 70-run lead with seven wickets in hand.

Captain of the side, Christopher Barnwell, was not out on 64 (3x4s, 2x6s) and middle order batsman Joshua Persaud was unbeaten on 16.
Scores in the game: Police 170 all out in their first innings, DCC 240-3 in reply.
BISHUN’S BRILLIANCE
Although the batting had pushed the team forward, it was Bishun, who had wrested control for the Queenstown club. The 27-year-old nabbed six wickets for 35 runs from 13.2 overs.
He unravelled the lawmen’s batting with slow well-placed deliveries, one which bowled recognised batsman Andrew Lyght (1) behind his back.
Bishun was also responsible for the dismissal of set batsmen Paul Tyndell and Kemol Savory. After DCC won the toss and bowled, Police had managed to take some control.
The pair had added 94 for the second wicket. Barnwell had experimented with his medium pace, fast bowling of Qumar Torrington and left-arm spin of Ashmead Nedd, but although Nedd had dismissed Chemroy Kendall (8) in his second over, nothing else was happening. There were chances, but it was not until Bishun was brought into the attack that wickets began to fall.
Tyndell 53 (6×4, 4×6), who was looking to put everything over the rope had hit Bishun for a six over the wide long–off boundary to bring up his 50, but a few balls later he held out to Torrington while attempting another big shot.
Savory looked solid in the middle, but he too became a victim of the left-arm spinner and was bowled for 50 (4×4, 2×6).
Police never regained control after the loss of Tyndell and Savory, they moved from 108-1 to 155-9 before they succumbed at 170.
Pernell London added 23 (3×4), while Raun Johnson smashed three fours in a quick unbeaten 13 towards the end.
Dexter George supported Bishun with two wickets.
When DCC batted, Trevon Griffith was ultra-aggressive and he favoured medium pacer Kester Harcourt. The Police captain had the last laugh when he struck the opener lbw for 41.
Sachin Singh was then joined by Tevin Imlach and the pair patiently batted themselves in. The experienced youngsters put together an 84-run second-wicket partnership before Singh fell for 41 (2×4, 3×6).
Barnwell then joined the West Indies U-19 player Imlach and they added a further 85 runs. When Imlach fell for 67 (2x4s), via a top edge, DCC were already in control.
