Timehri man in court for unlawful possession of ammunition

A Timehri resident was on Wednesday released on $60,000 bail when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates ‘ Court charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.

Sunil Roopnarine appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and denied the charge which states that on November 10, 2018 at Linden Soesdyke Highway he had in his possession ten, 12 gauge cartridges while he was not a firearm licence holder at the time.

The 45 – year old man was represented by attorney Clevaun Humphrey who made a bail application. Police prosecutor Arvin Moore had no objections to bail.

According to the police facts, on the day in question, ranks conducted a stop and search at a roadblock exercise when the defendant a passenger in a minibus at the time heading to Mahdia was found with the ammunition.

Passengers were asked to exit the bus and upon searching it a bag was found under one of the seats containing the said ammunition. As a result ranks enquired whose bag it was but no one claimed ownership. The conductor then told the police that the bag belongs to the defendant. The defendant was arrested and charged with the offence. He was released on 60,000 bail by the magistrate. The matter was adjourned to November 21, 2018.
