Munisar, Gilgeous lead Lower Corentyne to female U-17 victory

ALL-ROUND performances from Ashmini Minisar and Lafona Gilgeous propelled Lower Corentyne to a seven-wicket victory over East Bank in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Female U-17 Secondary Schools Franchise League T20 tournament Monday at the DCC ground.

Minisar, who finished as the player of the game, grabbed two wickets and scored 21 runs, while Gilgeous also scored 21 runs and finished with one wicket.
East Bank, who won the toss and batted first, were helped to 100-4 off their allotted overs after the Corentyne bowlers combined for 35 wides, which, according to competition rules, amounted to 70 runs.

Afruica Gentle, who scored 89 against Georgetown a few days ago, led the attack with 13 runs, while Dalary Seecharran added seven runs.
Munisar captured two wickets for two runs from four overs with her off-spin, while seam bowler Gilgeous took 1-9 from four overs.

When Lower Corentyne batted, they lost Shenia Simon without score, but fellow opener Munisar partnered with Niveena Ramnauth (5) for a second-wicket partnership of 32 and with Gilgeous for a third-wicket partnership of 31.

The 14-year-old opener stroked two fours and a few doubles in her 21, while 17-year-old Gilgeous ran several singles to go with her three boundaries to propel Lower Corentyne to 101-3 in 14.3 overs.
