A 27-year-old man, who allegedly chopped his father to the head with a cutlass, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Seon Obermuller appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and denied the charge which alleged that on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at 42 Miles Backdam, North West District, he unlawfully wounded Keith Obermuller with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence. He further added that the defendant was charged for attempted murder in 2016. He was also charged that year for wounding his brother.
According to facts presented by the police, on the day in question, Seon and his father were consuming alcohol together. It is alleged that Seon turned to his father and told him “two big men can’t live in one house” and picked up a cutlass and dealt his father a chop to the head.
Obermuller was remanded to prison by the magistrate until November 6, 2018. The matter was transfer to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
