A 49-YEAR-OLD Buxtonian coconut vendor operating at Bourda Market was robbed of two gold chains and over $30,000 cash on Sunday, when two armed bandits accosted him.
Reports reaching this publication indicate that the vendor operates his coconut stall on a 24-hrs basis at the corner of Robb Street and Orange Walk, Bourda, Georgetown when he was robbed in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Police were told that the two bandits walked up to the vendor’s coconut stall and while one pointed a handgun at the man and ordered that he hand over his valuables, the accomplice who was also armed stood guard several feet away .
After robbing the vendor, the bandits ran towards a silver-grey car that was parked a short distance away and made good their escape.
The victim allegedly told the police that in a video being circulated on Facebook of another robbery, where a bandit was shot in the Bourda area, one of the men in that grouping was also one of the perpetrators who robbed him.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, a 39-year-old contractor of Independence Boulevard La Penitence was robbed by two bandits, one armed with a handgun and another with a knife.
Reports indicate that the contractor was relieved of a gold chain, and two Samsung cellphones, all valued at approximately $856,000. The victim is said to have parked his motorcar in his yard and was about to close his gate, when the two perpetrators came from an unknown direction and held him at gunpoint and robbed him.
They then escaped on foot. Police are currently investigating the crime.
