Dindyal’s ton carries unbeaten GCC to win over DCC
WEST Indies U-16 batsman Mavendra Dindyal struck a century to lead the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) to a five-wicket victory against home team, the Demerara Cricket Club, yesterday in the GCA Friends of Cricket 100 Overs U-17 Tournament.
DCC won the toss and reached 234-4 in 55 overs, while GCC replied with 239-5 in 40 overs.
All of the DCC batsmen had starts, but except for Brandon Jaikaran who scored 51 (8x4s), none of them converted the starts into big scores.
Ezekiel Wilson (33), Inderjit Nanan (32) and Daniel Mootoo (29) played well, but they faced too many dot balls, which restricted the scoring. If it were not for a few quick shots from Orlando Giddings (34* 2x4s, 2x6s) and smart singles from Jonathan Van Lange (22*) towards the end, the home team might not have reached 234-4 from 55 overs.
Rahul Singh (11) and Dindyal carried the visitors to 75 for the first wicket, with the latter leading the charge, but it was a second-wicket stand of 118 runs between the opener and Rivaldo Phillips (35) that pushed GCC in the driver’s seat.
The fourteen-year-old century maker was extremely aggressive as he carved out 14 fours and five sixes in his innings of 120, while Phillips hit four fours and a six in his 35.
When the pair fell, Romel Datterdin (26*) played a few quick shots to ensure GCC registered their third win in as many games.
Left-arm spinner Daniel Mootoo led the attack for the home team with three wickets for 22 runs.
