The initiative was conceptualised as a result of a request by the Ministry of Agriculture for the Education Ministry to participate in its Tree Planting initiative to mark Agriculture Month 2018 and National Tree Day.

Additionally, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Secretary-General in Guyana, Ms. Patrice La Fleur and staff held a tree-planting exercise at the La Bonne Intention Secondary School, East Coast Demerara and the East Ruimveldt Secondary School, in the city on Friday to also mark National Tree Day.
