Charity businesswoman granted bail on drug charges

THIRTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Roxane Lawrie of Charity Housing Scheme was granted bail when she appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on narcotics-possession charges.

She was arraigned before Essequibo Magistrate Esther Sam. Lawrie was slapped with two charges: possession of narcotics and the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking; she pleaded not guilty to both charges. The court heard that the businesswoman was found with three grams of cannabis and 1 ¾ grams of cocaine on October 1. She denied the allegations and on Wednesday was granted bail. For possession of cannabis, she was granted $2000 bail and for the possession of cocaine, she was granted $4000 bail. The case has been adjourned until November 11, when trial will commence.
