GUNMEN placed four rows of blocks on the roadway, blocking a businesswoman’s path before they proceeded to rob her of over $2M on Sunday at Community Centre Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The 55-year-old businesswoman of Soesdyke was robbed of $1.4M in cash and over $800,000 in jewellery in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Reports indicate that the three armed bandits, who knew the businesswoman’s routine, prepared for her after she closed up her business place at Patsy Beepat Food Court at the Soesdyke Junction, EBD.
Further reports stated that the businesswoman entered her motorcar and proceeded home, and while in her street she noticed the concrete blocks across the road which caused her to stop suddenly.
The bandits then quickly flanked her vehicle, brandishing firearms which they pointed in her direction, and demanded that she open her car door.
It is alleged that after the door was opened, one of the bandits grabbed the victim’s bag with the cash and jewellery and escaped on foot. The other two bandits then tried starting the vehicle. When they couldn’t, they ran away with the keys.
The police have confirmed that the robbery did occur and that an investigation has been launched.
