A 28-year-old Wisroc, Linden, taxi driver was on Friday sentenced to three years jail by Senior Magistrate, Fabayo Azore for causing the death of a 64-year-old pedal cyclist during an accident along the Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara last year.

Keon Haynes, after trial, was found guilty of the charge which alleged that on August 23, 2017 at Grove Public Road, he drove HC3809 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of George Klass.

According to the facts presented during sentencing, Haynes, on the day in question, saw the elderly man attempting to cross the road with his bike and still proceeded at a fast rate which resulted in Klass sustaining severe head injuries to which he later succumbed.
