Dey wins 6th Victor Macedo Memorial Cycling

TROJAN Cycle Club’s Curtis Dey claimed the spoils for his stand alone win in the 16th edition of the Victor Macedo Memorial Cycling Road Race which took place on Sunday morning.

Trailing the 19-year-old in second spot was Alonzo Ambrose, while Paul DeNobrega finished in the other top spot.

The raced rolled off from Peter Rose Street, continued to Long Creek on the Linden Soesdyke Highway and concluded on Homestretch Avenue, where Dey crossed the line in a time of three hours, 16 minutes and 47 seconds in the 73-mile event.

Andrew Hicks, Ajay Gopilall, Deeraj Garbarran, Andre Green and Balram Narine rounded out the top eight spots, in that order.

Gopilall finished as the top Junior, while Adelie Hodge was second and Donovan Fraser copped third. In the Veteran’s category, Junior Niles reigned supreme while Mark Spencer and Leer Nunes were second and third, respectively.

Jude Bentley was the top Mountain Biker, as Julio Melville came second and Quincy Punch – third.

At the conclusion of the event, prizes were given to the top finishers by members of the Macedo family. The organisers also mentioned that plans are in place for making next year’s staging a bigger and better event by inviting overseas cyclists to compete.
