SEVEN persons who were left homeless after a fire of unknown origin destroyed their home at Woodley Park, West Coast Berbice last week Tuesday, are appealing to the public for help to get back to some degree of normalcy.
Vedish Balram of Back Street, Woodley Park, a village also known as #11, had reported that around 18:00hrs on Tuesday August 28th last, himself his wife, Anita and their five children were at the home of a relative some distance away when he saw his home in flames. The man said he was the only adult male in the vicinity at the time and he made frantic efforts to put out the blaze. He said that at one point he fell and injured his head but eventually had to let the fire have its way. The family was unable to save anything.
Apart from furniture, other items destroyed included rations for the month; new school uniforms and school kits for the children. Vedish, who is self-employed, said that the fire has left his family destitute and he would be grateful for any form of relief.
