AS the police investigation into a series of home invasions in the Essequibo area continues, a father of three was on Tuesday slapped with two counts of rape.
George Butters made his appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plead to the indictable charges which were read in camera.

The first charge alleged that on August 13, 2018, at Lima Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Butters engaged in sexual penetration with a 48-year-old woman without her consent.
It is also alleged that Butters between August 20, 2018 and August 21, 2018 at Danielstown, Essequibo Coast,engaged in sexual penetration with a 31-year-old woman,again without her consent.

Butters was arrested last week as the police continued their investigations into a series of break and enter offences in the Essequibo district, where the female victims were raped. More charges are likely to be laid against Butters, as more victims are coming forward.
The accused was granted a total of $400,000 bail and had his matter transferred to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court for September 11.
