– after reportedly running into path of presidential convoy

A VEHICLE belonging to the presidential convoy on Friday was involved in an accident on the East Bank Public Road at Friendship, resulting in the injury of a pedestrian.

The vehicle, PPP 3 owned by the state, was part of a convoy headed to Georgetown.  At the time of the accident, President David Granger was not in any of the vehicles.

The pedestrian that was involved in the accident was identified as 29-year-old Herman John of Manaus Gardens, New Hope, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where after some treatment he was released.

On Saturday, President David Granger visited the injured man at his home and later that day, he was taken to a private city hospital where he is currently receiving medical attention.

According to the Ministry of the Presidency, arrangements have been made for the injured man to receive further medical treatment.

The circumstances surrounding this accident are being investigated by the Guyana Police Force.

However, according to reports reaching this publication, a presidential guard was driving motor jeep PPP 3 and in the vicinity of Friendship, EBD, the pedestrian allegedly ran out of a rum shop and onto the road. The driver tried to swerve away from the pedestrian but still ended up hitting him.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered injuries about his body.
One of John’s relatives at the hospital said he received head injuries. He had alcohol in his blood and needed to be sedated pending medical attention, the relative said.
