BIKE troubles continued yesterday in Canada for Elliot Vieira, who ended his Canadian Superbike (CSBK) Championship without riding a competitive lap.
Saturday’s problems worsened into Sunday as mechanics continued trying to get the problem sorted, swapping out throttle-bodies, spark plugs and other parts.
And after missing first practice and another session, Vieira opted to mount his old Kawasaki ZX6-R that gave him the 2015 Caribbean Championship.
And after a few laps of that, things were looking more bright but on return to the pit for the feedback session, Vieira described the bike as feeling unstable down the back straight, later being discovered as a damaged bushing in the front shock.
Mechanics refocused their attention on the Yamaha but to no avail, with the time ultimately elapsing.
He told Chronicle Sport, “Yeah, it’s obviously disappointing to not have a ride on the last day of the CSBK Championships; the guys worked hard throughout the year.”
“I wanted to ride so badly that I pulled out the old Kawi (Kawasaki) but that had issues too. The bike was just unstable down the straight and also underpowered for this track; so maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t ride it.”
What we are going to do is take the bike home and then we are going to have it stripped and sorted. There are a few track days here before the winter steps in and we want to get it prepped for that.”
I can’t say enough thanks to my sponsors for the year; my manager Clive Ng-a-Kien and mechanic William Shimping who tore the bike down no less than about 30 times trying to find the problem.”
