BRAINCentral.com has awarded a grade four student, Rahul Jawahir, the first of many weekly prizes which will be distributed between August and September, as part of the inaugural Learn-and-Earn Vacation Competition.

According to BrainCentral.com, the competition is for young learners between Grades four to 11.

Children who enrol in the competition receive scores for quizzes taken during the week. The learner with the highest scores for the week is awarded the winner of the week and can win prizes such as tablets, cellphones, and gift certificates for school supplies, electronics, fast food and movies.

“In today’s digital world, children more than any other generation have embraced (Information and Communication Technology) ICT and gaming technology with a level of zeal and familiarity that is unparalleled from other generations,” said BrainCentral.com.
The creators of BrainCentral.com have leveraged internet and gaming technology to develop an online educational platform to enrich the learning experience of young learners from grades four to 11.

The concept of the Learn-and-Earn Vacation Competition is geared at encouraging the idea of rewards associated with learning. Rewarding children with tangible items is a practical and fun way to build the work ethic of young learners and the rewards that education brings.

Participants who sign up through the BrainCentral.com web portal can access a range of academic subjects that are geared at preparing students for common entrance and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level examinations.

There are over 50,000 questions ranging from Grades 4 to 11 for students who wish to test their skills primarily in Maths, English and the Sciences.

With inputs from qualified educators of the pertinent subject matters, questions are fashioned to create thousands of quizzes that are easily accessible to the community on demand.

The BrainCentral platform combined with the questions are used to simulate exam conditions online and allow students to compete with each other via quizzes, mock exams or practice questions.

Chatrooms and discussion forums allow students and teachers to meet and discuss academic topics, as part of the overall collaborative learning experience.
In the spirit of competition, they also award prizes based on individual and team performances. The long-term vision is to give students the opportunity to access teaching materials, whether quizzes, revision notes or even online tutors to help them with their studies.
