Dear Editor,
THE historic May, 2015, national elections represented an auspicious moment for the Guyanese people as it illuminated their hearts, for a better country, and a better life.
Who can fault those who exulted, taking into consideration the twenty-three years that had seen so many communities deliberately deprived of basic amenities such as good roads, potable water, and street lights; just to name a few of the critical essentials of everyday life.
The communities of East Berbice is a specific example of what a change of government and its benefits have brought to the communities in this well- known locale.
For the first time in fifty years, residents in communities from Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, to Islington, and Glasgow Villages, East Bank Berbice, through the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, now have street lights installed. This coming of light begun on July 9 to July 10.
It was a beautiful sight to observe residents going out for leisurely strolls as they bask in an overdue community comfort. This also is a manifestation of the coalition government’s belief and commitment to carry socio-economic development to all communities, irrespective of ethnic composition or political affiliation.
This latest example of development around people further fulfils the ideals of the national motto: ONE PEOPLE ONE NATION ONE DESTINY.
