… donates World Cup replica footballs, cash

CLOTHING and Clarks footwear giant, Chetsons ‘Home of Originals’, became the latest entity to throw its support behind the 2nd annual Guinness Cage Street-ball Championship.

On Thursday, Managing Director Inshaan Ramkellawan made a donation of four replica-size Adidas ‘Telsar’ FIFA World Cup balls and an undisclosed sum of money to co-Principal of Three Peat Promotions Rawle Welch, during a simple ceremony that was conducted at the entity’s location on Wellington Street.

The business, which also sells exclusive brands such as Under Armour and Adidas footwear, has been an official authorised agent of the popular and established English footwear Clarks for a number of years.

Ramkellawan, speaking at the presentation said he was happy to be associated with the tournament, adding that since it is intended to benefit communities, adding to social cohesion and fostering camaraderie among its citizens he had no hesitation in offering assistance.

Welch, in his response, thanked the Managing Director for his company’s support, adding that all efforts will be taken to ensure that the vision of integrating communities and its citizens is achieved, while a similar exertion will be made to guarantee fans’ safety.

The tournament which had its inaugural introduction last year at the National Gymnasium will visit the Haslington Market tarmac this year and 24 teams have been invited, including twelve from the East Coast villages, while the remainder will comprise teams from Georgetown, Linden and West Demerara.

This year’s tournament has been dubbed ‘East Coast Best versus The Rest’ and the action is anticipated to provide riveting rivalry as hosts East Coast look to repel the challenge of the visiting teams.

Over $800 000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs, while lucky fans will be able to win prizes over the five nights of competition.
