… Provisional programme released  

AS preparation for the most anticipated horse race meet of the year, the 12th Guyana Cup, Auto Sales giant BM Soat has confirmed its sponsorship deal with the organisers recently.

The one day event is billed for August 19, at the Rising Sun Turf Club, with over $15M in cash and prizes.

The business entity through its secretary Nandanie Persaud, in handing over the cheque, claimed that the company is always a full supporter of horse racing locally.

In response, Roy Jafarally of the Guyana Cup organising committee thanked the auto dealer for the support.

Meanwhile, the organisers have released a provisional programme with the C Class event being the main attraction in the 10-card event.

Horses will be battling over 1600 metres with the total purse of $3 875 000 up for grabs. This race is open to all imported and locally bred of all classes, and open to all ages and sex (stallion or mare).

The main supporting race is the Three-year-old Derby, an 1100m event with a top prize of $2M. This race will feature only Guyana-bred horses.

Other races listed on the programme are as follows:

The G1 and Lower 1400m race will see the winner cart off $1 550 000. Guyana and West Indies-bred horses classified G1 and Lower and imported horses classified E3 and Lower who did not earn in their last race are eligible to compete in this race.

The other races, distance and top prize are: H3 and Lower (1100m, $1 350 000); Two-year-old Guyana-bred (1100m, $680 000); I Class and Lower (1400m, $581 000); J3 and Lower (1400m, $485 000); L Class (1400m; $390 000); L Class (1400m, $390 000) and L Class (1100m, $290 000).
