A MINER was swept away by strong river currents while attempting to cross the Partang River in the Cuyuni/Mazaruni on Sunday afternoon.

Reports are that around 17:00hrs , the man, who is known only as “Kenneth”, was attempting to cross the river on a “wood skin” when he went down.  Reports indicate that several persons looked on helplessly as the man tried to stay afloat.

Persons in the area reported that the miner was on his way to his worksite at the Koreng River when the incident occurred.
