A 35-year-old Lethem mechanic, who sustained third degree burns to his body while discharging fuel from a fuel tank along the Linden-Lethem trail two weeks ago, has succumbed to his injuries.

Dead is Shawhinshaw Ally, called “Imty” of Tabatinga Drive, Lethem, Rupununi.
Reports are that around June 23, the man left the coastland for the Rupununi and while travelling, the fuel truck which he was operating careened on its side on the slushy roadway.

Reports are that Ally decided to discharge the fuel from the truck to another truck and while doing so using a generator to power the process, fuel spilled on him and he caught afire. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex but was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Reports from the GPHC suggest that the man sustained burns to most of his upper body. He passed away Friday last at the GPHC.
