– appeals to the public for help

DWAYNE Crawford, 37, a father of four young girls, all below age 12, is appealing to the public for assistance to raise $4.8million to cover the costs for a heart surgery to save his life.

In an interview with the Guyana Chronicle on Sunday at his mother’s Lot 37 Prince Williams Street, Plaisance home, the young man spoke of his health challenges over the years, between 2012 to date.

Crawford said one morning he awoke to find that he could not move his limbs on the right side of his body. He said that he called out for his mother who rushed him to the hospital where he was hospitalised for a prolonged period.
At the time, his wife who was a nurse in training, had to miss her final examinations due his sudden health complication and opted to stick by his side until he got on the road to recovery. It would be until the next year that she managed to write the examination and was successful.

The young man said that he retired from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) because, according him, the salary was too meager for him to take care of his family. He moved on to working with a heavy duty equipment company and later a hotel where he performed security duties.

It was a little shift from what he actually did at the GDF in his final days there, working in the communications department.

Prior to him having a stroke, Crawford was diagnosed with a heart condition.  He was told by a doctor that he has an enlarged heart which was so large that it puts a strain on the muscles, thus making it hard for the muscles to function effectively.

At the beginning, he was required to use more than two dozen medications per day but today that number has been reduced to somewhere around 14 pills.

Crawford was informed that he would need to have an implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator. A letter issued by the Caribbean Heart Institute (GHI), and seen by this publication stated that the young man would need $3.8 million to secure and have the device installed to address his heart condition.

On the July 21 at Bent and Hardina Streets, friends of Dwayne will be hosting a Bar B-Que and hang to raise funds to go towards Crawford’s medical expenses.
Persons who are desirous of making a direct contribution to the Crawford’s medical expenses can make contact with him via (+592) 682 7382, 222 4366 or Demerara Bank Account Number 2030435.
