LOCAL writer, Chevon Lim, launched a new book of short stories titled: “Tales from Sugarcane Street”, reminiscent of Guyana, but with a thrilling twist, at the National Library on Saturday.

The launch was attended by family, friends and well-wishers of Lim when she shared her journey in writing the book and her inspirations. In fact, the book is dedicated to her grandmother who passed away three years ago and who would have celebrated her 87th birthday on Saturday.

According to Lim, “The book is a complex interaction between dark and light.” It is written in the ‘Thriller’ genre and is inspired by renowned author, Stephen King. Currently, the book has a prologue and five chapters and will soon be available on Amazon and in print for purchase.

Lim, however, highlighted that she will be seeking to add more stories to the collection of stories. “I’d like to think of the book as a thing that evolves–it’s evolving–and I will add more [stories],” she said. Lim said she discovered how to tap the digital sphere as a self-publisher.

Shortly, she will also be publishing two more books–Sugarcane Girl and Bush Tales.

Revelling in the launch of her first book despite many challenges, Lim advised “Continue believing and when you’re done, just get out there and just do it.”
