THE Guyana Press Association (GPA) on Sunday completed a two-day specialized workshop for sports journalists and editors yesterday at the National Resource Centre in Georgetown.
The seminar, which focussed on topics such as media ethics in sports journalism as well as investigative pieces and their needs in today’s society, saw Trinidad’s Lasana Liburd being the lead facilitator.
Liburd, who runs Wired868, an online news agency in the twin Island Republic, contended over his two-day course that the value of a source remains of paramount importance to crafting good stories.
He added that Journalists must be reminded of the roles in society as well as their roles to the public to disseminate and distribute information in a fair and correct manner.

He recounted his days as a sports journalist when he took on former FIFA Vice President, Jack Warner, in a trying period when he faced server obstacles.
He used this to remind Journalists how important their editors and media owners were and their support was vital in getting hard-hitting stories that are of interest to the public.
Other speakers throughout the two-day course were Trinidadian Wesley Gibbings; University of Guyana lecturer, Andrew Kendall; senior journalist, Rawle Welch; and cricket historian/commentator, Edwin Seeraj.
