THE owner of ‘Glow Again’ boutique was on Thursday further remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman for trafficking cocaine.
Gavin Blackman, called ‘Boiley’ of Norton Street, Georgetown was charged a month ago for the offence when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Particulars of the offence read that on May 4 at Norton Street, he allegedly had 1.1 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. He denied the charge.
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) prosecutor, Kunyo Sandiford, objected to the defendant being granted bail, citing the seriousness of the charge.
His attorney, Siand Dhurjon, made an application for Blackman to be released on bail on the grounds that his client had contracted an unknown illness in prison.
Dhurjon disclosed that his client complains about severe abdominal pains.
Nevertheless, that was not sufficient reasons for bail to be granted by Magistrate Latchman. The matter was adjourned until June 12.
According to reports, Blackman was on CANU’s radar as he was suspected to be a drug dealer.
CANU ranks, on the day in question, were conducting surveillance on Blackman when they saw him retrieve a plastic bag from a known individual. He then went into his car and drove away.
The ranks reportedly trailed Blackman to Norton Street and, as he was about to enter the yard, they gave chase but the man ran up the stairs and threw the plastic bag with the drugs into the house.
However, the occupant of the home saw the parcel and threw it into the neighbour’s yard. The parcel was retrieved by a CANU officer and the suspected cocaine was found inside.
