Upper Demerara Schools Relay Championships set for today

THE Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) District 10 Upper Demerara Branch Sports Committee’s Relay Championships will start this morning at 11:00hrs at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.

The Relay Championships which were first held in 2014 will see participation of several primary and secondary schools across Linden in several age categories starting from Under-8 to the Open.

Sports Chairperson of the branch, Mrs Carmen Small, said that the event will be used to raise funds for athletes who will be attending the CUT Championships later this year, and the winning school will be representing District 10 at the National Relay Championship.

Mackenzie High School are the current national relay champions and they will be up against the Christianburg Wismar Secondary, New Silvercity Secondary, Wisburg Secondary, Harmony Secondary, Linden Foundation Secondary and the Linden Technical Institute.

Primary schools who will be contesting are: One Mile, Watooka Day, Regma, St Aidan’s, Christianburg, and Coomacka Mines.
