A 16-year-old schoolboy sustained a wound to the back of his neck after the son of an Edinburg Village seamstress chopped him as he was altering a pair of pants at their home just before 18:00hrs on Saturday.
Shemar Hinds of Lot 837, New Glasgow Housing Scheme, while being accompanied by his eldest sister, Shennile Mickle, revealed that he had gone to seamstress Sharon’s home at East Bank Berbice to alter his church pants and while waiting for the repaired garment, he pointed out to the woman some flaws on her wooden flooring. He then told her that he was a part-time mason.
Moments earlier, he had observed that one of the dressmaker’s sons called “Viand” was seated, viewing a telecast with the remote control in his hand.
While bending to show the seamstress the flaws on the floor, he said that he felt what he initially thought was a lash behind his neck.
Shocked, he turned around and screamed while asking his attacker why he attacked him. But, the 25-year-old man just stared at him speechlessly.
Afraid for his life, Shemar hurriedly exited the house and while scaling the nearby fence, he passed his hand behind the neck and it was then he realised that he was not hit with a blunt object, but was chopped instead.
His earlier screams had alerted neighbours who rushed to rescue him and took him to the New Amsterdam Hospital where the wound was sutured.
Meanwhile, Viand Seetaram, the alleged attacker, has been arrested and remains in custody at Sisters Police Station as investigation continues into the incident.
