Piracy suspect ‘Bolo’ arrested by Suriname police

Police in neighbouring Suriname on Saturday evening arrested one of the main suspects in the deadly piracy attacks on April 27th in that country’s territorial waters.

The man has been identified as ‘Bolo, is suspected to be a member of a notorious group of pirates. The group allegedly carried out the attacks on four boats , targeting 20 fishermen in the process . To date  11 fishermen are missing and presumed dead. The ‘revenge’ attack  reportedly occurred after the death of one Somnauth Manohar who was gunned down on March 30th.

Well known Corentyne businessman , Nakool Manohar called “Fyah” , the brother of Somnauth, was last week arraigned for the murder of one of the fishermen.

According to sources in Suriname, ‘Bolo’ was arrested at a place called Lelydorp and he was subsequently taken to Paramaribo under intense security. Several other men , including ‘Sinbad’, ‘Dick’ and ‘Crackhead’ are suspected to have taken part in the attacks.

‘Crackhead’ was arrested by the Surinamese authorities several days after the incident.
