He said there has been an increase in passenger carriage over the last few months when compared to last year.
“Other airlines stated their intent but nothing concrete and we will not disclose any names until an application has been made,” the director general said.
He explained that the airline had also expressed an interest in other destinations in the US.
The aviation sector contributed $20.7 billion annually to the economy which is 3.2 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The sector also caters for 12,000 jobs.

He said services agreement have now been made with 11 countries, some of which includes Tanzania, Libia, Brazil, The Dominican Republic, Republic of Korea, New Zealand and India.
Field also noted that a framework which complies with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has been prepared. ICAO, he said, will be hosting an international air transport conference here in November.

The GCAA has also established the National Aviation and Environmental group to promote the Green State agenda.
American Airlines had announced a new route between Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown, Guyana and Miami International Airport (MIA), starting from December 20.
“We are pleased to continue growing our presence in South America,” said Jim Butler, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President, International and Cargo.

“This new service adds a new international destination to American’s global network, promoting tourism in the country and offering the people of Guyana multiple connecting options through our hub in Miami.”
The new service will operate four times per week with an Airbus A319, an aircraft that features eight seats in First Class, 24 seats in the Main Cabin Extra with more leg room, and 96 seats in the Main Cabin, in addition to more entertainment options and power outlets in every seat.

The airline’s statement noted that during the summer season in 2019, this service will be operated daily.
“The airline has a strong presence in South America. It is the premier carrier to the region offering more flights to more destinations than any other carrier. From Miami, the airline operates more than 330 daily flights to 135 destinations around the world,” the statement added.

American Airlines has hubs in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C. It is
a founding member of the one world alliance, whose members serve more than 1,000 destinations with about 14,250 daily flights to over 150 countries.
