CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday committed a 25-year-old footballer to stand trial at the High Court for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed another player with a broken bottle.

Julian Knox is charged with unlawfully wounding Keith Darton with intent to commit murder on April 11, 2018 at Coverden, East Bank Demerara.
Knox, after undergoing a preliminary inquiry (PI) at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, was committed to stand trial before a judge and jury due to sufficient evidence being found. He will remain on $250,000 bail.

According to the prosecution’s facts, the two men who are known to each other and play football together had an argument on the day in question. The defendant, Knox, armed himself with a broken bottle and gave Darton several stabs about the body, causing him to be hospitalised for three days.
