Man jailed for possession of cocaine smoking utensil

A homeless man was on Friday sentenced to one year imprisonment by Magistrate Leron Daly for possession of a improvised smoking utensil.

It was, alleged that on May 24, 2018 at Ruimveldt Police Station, 30-year old-Arshad Alli had in his possession a utensil used for smoking cocaine.

The man pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him in court.  For such an offence the penalty attached  is imprisonment for a period  not that less than one year and up to three years.

According to the facts presented in court by Prosecutor  Sanj Singh, on the day in question, the defendant was arrested  for simply larceny and a search was conducted on him . The the utensil was found in the right side of his pants pocket and he admitted to the offence.

In the past Alli was placed before the courts on several simple larceny-related charges.
