THE UDFA Frank Watson U-15 Football League was won by Milerock Football Club with runners-up being Botofago. Amelia’s Ward Panthers, Eagles United, Hi-Stars, Silver Shattas and Topp XX also took part.
The presentation ceremony at the Wisburg ground was attended by Guyana Football Federation (GFF) president Wayne Forde, UDFA president Terrence Mitchell, UDFA 1st vice-president .Claude Williams, UDFA 2nd vice-president. Patrick Dey, UDFA 3rd vice-president Kelon Josiah, UDFA treasurer Answatt Barratt and UDFA organising secretary James Trotman.
GFF president Wayne Forde presented the champions with complete uniforms and each player received a winner’s medal. Runners-up Botofago, for their efforts, were rewarded with a trophy and also received complete uniforms and each player received their second-place medals.
The Amelia’s Ward Panthers and the Silver Shattas copped the third- and fourth-place trophies respectively.
The league kicked off October 28 last year and completed on March 17 this year.
The League championship was played on a round-robin basis. Twenty-one games were scheduled to be played but five were walkovers and one had to be replayed due to bad weather. A total of 55 goals were scored with each game having a goal scored.
The tournament was played exclusively at the Wisburg Secondary School ground where Malachi Todd of Botofago with six goals emerged as the player with the most goals.
Milerock, from their six matches, played unbeaten for 14 points with four wins and two draws, while Botofago had four wins and one draw and one loss for 13 points to be second, similar in points and results with Amelia’s Ward Panthers but the goal difference gave Botofago the edge over them in the end.
The Best Defender of the tournament was Akeem Venture of Amelia’s Ward, Best Mid-field Player Zadain McIntyre of Milerock, Best Goalkeeper, Gerold Mentore of the Milerock.
Special recognition was given to 10-year-old Romano Charles of the Hi-Starts who impressed with his skills and tactical knowledge of the game.
