AN elderly security guard was on Monday charged before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for manslaughter…after allegedly stabbing his robber during a failed armed robbery.
Peter Jansen, 56 of North Sophia was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was released on $250,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until May 28.
The charge read that Jansen on May 1 at Sophia, unlawfully killed Shelton Jordan called “Skull Top” and “Mad Dog.”
Jansen’s attorney Latchmie Rahaman, during her application for bail told the court that Jordon had approached her client with a knife to rob him and steal his caged-bird.
Rahaman explained that her client acted in self-defence managing to disarm the robber and inflicting a stab to his abdomen.
“My client is known as a peacemaker and not a troublemaker,” the attorney stressed.
The prosecutor, Inspector Gordon Mansfield, did not oppose bail being granted to Jansen but requested that he lodge his passport with the court.
