– to mark Girls in ICT Day

STARR Computer Inc last Thursday joined the Nation Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) in observing International Girls in ICT Day.

To mark the occasion, the company held a seminar on the Fourth Industrial Revolution at its Brickdam office, and saw in attendance students and teachers of the East Ruimveldt Secondary, New Campbellville Secondary and Richard Ishmael Secondary Schools.

Company Marketing Manager, Penny Francis said STARR would like to encourage girls to consider careers in the growing field of ICT, as the sector presents tremendous opportunities.

Its president, Michael Mohan said digital transformation is happening almost everywhere in the world, from cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) to blockchain technology and automation, and the ‘Internet of things’ arising from smart vehicles and appliances, and technological advances are transforming nearly every aspect of business.

He said that the skills to adapt to these changes are essential, as well as access to control over and full use of technology. “That is why this year for ‘International Girls in ICT Day’,” he said, “we are focusing on the theme for girls of ‘Expand horizons; change attitudes’.”
