Pandemonium broke out at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after a prisoner , who was remanded to jail on a threatening language and assault charge , attempted to jump through the building’s window after the charge was read to him.
Thirty-six year old Francis Gonsalves began behaving erratically after he appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam on a threatening language and assault charge committed on one Susan Smith.

After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty. Upon hearing he was remanded to prison, the labourer began hitting his head on the prisoner’s dock leaving a trail of blood nearby. He then attempted to jump through the court’s window but ranks present at the court barred him from going any further.
The man’s unpredictable behavior sent the magistrate and staff scurrying for cover.
Gonsalves was then escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital for medical attention by the police .
He is expected to return to court on May 14, 2018. (Indrawattie Natram)
