Six days after he was beaten and thrown over board by pirates in Suriname, a Guyanese  fisherman who was identified as “Sherwin” miraculously survived and was rescued on Thursday.

Reliable sources in Suriname confirmed the man was escorted by Suriname police and Health Officials to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is said to be in a semi-conscious state and according to reports , the man was on the same vessel with Glenroy Jones , one of the 16 men who went missing following the brutal attack.

Reports from Suriname are that police have arrested a suspected pirate at an area known as Nieuw Amsterdam as relatives remain hopeful about the whereabouts of the missing men.

On Friday, pirates attacked four fishing boats with combined 20 member crew.
Four of men survived, while 16 were reported as missing. The bodies of four were found on Wednesday  as the search continues.

Police in Berbice have  arrested the brother of the alleged mastermind of the piracy attack as fingers point to a “revenge act” as the main reason behind the deadly act.

The masterminds, said to be siblings led by a man known as “Sinbad” , are said to be taking revenge for the murder of another relative , Somnath Manohar , who was gunned down in Suriname by gunmen late in March.

The men have claimed that fishermen were behind the murder of Manohar.
