THE New Amsterdam Special Needs School will soon be able to empower students to be self-dependent following the construction of a greenhouse by the University of Guyana, Tain Campus final year Social Work students.
Spokesperson Tessie Ramnauth said the group, which includes Celes Bradford and Jamalaa Albert, was tasked with undertaking a project that would benefit a community.
After much thought, the group chose the greenhouse project for the special needs school as they considered its long-term benefit, once effectively managed by teachers and the differently-abled students.
The group is of the view that the students will learn a new skill which can be useful to them in their adult life.
The project was executed to the tune of $55,000, the majority of which was the students’ personal contribution and the remainder from family and others.
