… Six of Berbice top First Division teams to compete

This Foundation was formed on October 17, 2016 with seven members and so far the many charitable works have been excellent.
Yesterday, the MMP Foundation launched an exciting six-team floodlight cricket tournament to be played at the Albion Sports Complex ground on Saturday, April 28.
Present at the launch were MMP Cricket PRO Bhisham Mohamed, secretary to the Foundation Ms Ladonna Nero, president of the Berbice Cricket Board Hilbert Foster, Ansa McAl representative Sean Abel in addition to Guyana and West Indies cricketer Shimron Hetmyer.
This is the first sporting venture that the MMP Foundation has organised since its existence and treasurer of the Foundation, David Brigbhukan, gave an overview of what to expect on April 28.
The first ball will be bowled at 10:00hrs and there will be three preliminary matches with a 10-over allotment.
The semi-final will be 15 overs and the grand final will be 20 overs. The six teams who will be competing for the inaugural MMP trophy are Albion Sports Complex, Port Mourant, Rose Hall Tigers, Rose Hall Town Metro, Blairmont Cricket Club and Young Warriors.
The winning team of the final will pocket $50 000 while the second- and third-place teams will receive $30 000 and $20 000 along with a trophy. Other incentives will be at stake for players such as player-of-the-match, most wickets and best catch award.
Brigbhukan stressed, “The main aim of this event is to garner funds to execute the work programme of the MMP Foundation for Excellence this year.”
The MMP Foundation for Excellence offered words of thanks to its sponsors namely, Ansa McAl, MMP Global, Little Wonder Baby Store and Stationery plus Universal DVD Club, Nand Persaud and Company, Republic Bank, NTN Television, Balram Shane Variety Store, Shavez Restaurant Night Club and Hotel, Trophy Stall, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Tickets for the event can be obtained from the JC Chandisingh Secondary School, Benjamin Gym, Universal DVD Club and Big B Restaurant on the West Coast, Berbice. Persons residing on the West Coast who are desirous of attending this event can be transported freely, courtesy of the MMP Foundation once they make that arrangement with management of Big B Restaurant.
The organisers are expecting a grand turnout and an exciting day of activities.
