THE semi-finals of this year’s 10th Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Linden Under-18 Secondary Schools football championship will be played at the Wisburg Secondary School (WSS) ground today.
The unbeaten Mackenzie High School (MHS) will take on New Silvercity Secondary School (NSSS) in the first semifinal at 14:45hrs while the second match is at 16:15hrs when WSS face the defending champions Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS).
To reach the semifinals MHS had an unblemished record as they handed the defending champions CWSS their only loss in a 2-1 result. They scored a similar victory against Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and registered a 3-1 against Harmony Secondary. MHS leading scorer has been Kemuel Batson with three goals.
Their opponents NSSS, led by the tournament’s top goalscorers Emmanuel Atkins who has six goals and Ojai Whittington with four, opened their campaign with a 10-0 thrashing of the Private Schools Combined and won 6-1 over Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS) but suffered a 2-1 loss to the CWSS.
Wisburg Secondary, who will face the reigning champions CWSS, defeated NSSS 2-1, lost to LFS 4-0 but moved past the Private Schools Combined with a walkover win. Their best scorer so far is Joel Isaacs with two goals.
Reigning champions CWSS, with Mickel Adams as their leading scorer with two goals, took care of Harmony Secondary 3-1 and gained a walkover win against LTI but lost to MHS 2-1.
The final is set for Friday at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.
