GUYANA will tomorrow commence its boxing medal hunt at the Commonwealth Games in Australia when light welterweight Colin `Superman’ Lewis clashes with St Lucian Nathan Ferrari in the fifth bout of the afternoon.

The scheduled three-rounder will mark the third time within five months that the two Caribbean pugilists are facing each other. Lewis, the Caribbean champion, stopped Ferrari in the first round in the previous two. The winner of tomorrow’s contest meets Sinethemba Blom of South Africa.
A total of 22 light welterweights will do battle at the Games. Meanwhile, Lewis’ compatriot flyweight `Lightning’ Keevin Allicock opens his quest against a tough opponent. The 19-year-old Albouystown resident is drawn to come against Scotland’s Reece McFadden.Three years Allicock’s senior, McFadden won a bronze medal at the last Commonwealth Games. Allicock will move into action on Monday and a victory will put him against the winner of a bout between Brian Agina of Kenya and Muhammad Syed Asif of Pakistan. Lewis and Allicock are seeking to break the 28-year-old boxing medal drought at the Commonwealth Games.
Guyana’s last medal was a bronze won at the 1990 Auckland, New Zealand Games by bantamweight Wesley Christmas.
