IN celebration of her 90th birthday People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) stalwart, Mahalia Dow, was showered with love by her colleagues along with Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Karen Cummings.
Dow was born on March 28, 1928, and is a part of the Victoria People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) #1 Group which was founded by the past President of Guyana, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.
She was presented with a cake and a food hamper to mark the special occasion followed by a group rendition of the traditional ‘Happy Birthday’ song.
Telling of what she believes contributes to her long life, Dow says she loves to eat her fruits and vegetables and takes long walks around the community when she gets the time.
Some of her favourite drinks are mauby and lemon and lime while she loves to eat monkey apples.
One of her favourite pastimes is to keep her brain active by completing the word search puzzles in the daily newspapers.
Dow has nine children, four of which are still alive while she has one younger brother who lives in Bartica and is in his early 70s.
The nonagenarian thanked the Minister and her group mates for turning out and encouraged the younger generation to be kinder to the elderly.
Moreen Philadelphia, an associate and friend of Dow said that she has known the woman for several years and that Dow is among a few others that helped to teach her how to be a good politician.
“Because of those shoulders that I stand on I am here today, and I just want to say on behalf of the Victoria #1 Group that we appreciate your service to the organisation and we’re happy that God would have spared your life to see 90 years,” she said.
Meanwhile Minister Cummings made a special intercessory prayer for Dow giving thanks for her life and requesting further protection over her daily going about.
