The men were allegedly identified as accomplices by Premchand Ramsohai called ‘Akash’ , 22, of Ankerville and who was captured shortly after the armed robbery and subsequent shooting of a labourer at Sand Reef Albion on Saturday night.
According to information, Ganesh Jagdeo, called “Chucky” and “Tony”, along with other relatives were sitting under his house in High Reef, Albion, when three masked men, one armed with a handgun and two with cutlasses pounced upon them, demanding cash and jewellery.
During the attack, it is alleged that Jagdeo resisted the bandits and the armed suspect discharged four rounds at him in the process. He sustained close range, gunshot injuries to his right hand and right side hip. Relatives have reported that the suspect had to undergo emergency surgery and had one of his kidneys removed due to the extent of the damage caused by the gun shot. The victim remains in a serious condition at the New Amsterdam hospital.
Following the incident, the police were alerted responded promptly. Acting upon intelligence, the ranks went to a location at Topoo, Albion, Corentyne, where they arrested the 22-year-old suspect who had in his possession a black t-shirt resembling one which one of the bandits had used to hide his face during the commission of the crime. The t-shirt was found in Jagdeo’s crotch.
He reportedly subsequently confessed to the crime and led investigators to an area not far from where he was arrested where they retrieved a .32 revolver with two live-rounds, four spent shells, two bicycles and a cutlass.
Jagdeo is said to identified the three men, who have now surrendered, as his accomplices and in addition reportedly confessed that they were part of the gang that was responsible for at least three robberies within the past weeks. The investigations are continuing.
