SACHIA Vickery defeated Ashley Kratzer yesterday in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 to reach the main draw for the 2018 BNP Paribas Open (also known as the 2018 Indian Wells Masters) in California.
Earlier in the qualifiers, Vickery had defeated Rebecca Peterson, also in straight sets, 6-3, 4-0.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport last evening, Vickery said, “The girls had started off well, but I’m in a really good place right now.”
According to Vickery, who also climbed four places in the WTA rankings, she’s elated at the move since it will give her a good opportunity to play some of the world’s best.
Meanwhile, Vickery said she’s focused on progressing further in the tournament which fetches a US$8.6M first place prize.
