THE annual Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Linden Schools Under-18 football championship will kick off as scheduled next Monday, March 12, but the launching has been rescheduled for today, after last Wednesday’s launch did not come off, at the YMCA building.
Last week’s planned launch failed to come off as the participating schools, with the exception of the Linden Technical Institute and education officials, did not show up and it is hoped that those responsible for the failure last week will make themselves available.
Coordinator for the event, Kevin Dejonge, said that the briefing is very important for the contesting schools, since a number of details pertaining to participation will be discussed and non-attendance could see teams being sanctioned.
There will be one game on the opening day next Monday. Christianburg Wismar Secondary will ace Harmony at 15:30hrs and the next playing date will see a double-header feature at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.
The other schools are Mackenzie High, New Silvercity Secondary, Linden Technical Institute, Linden Foundation Secondary and the Combined Private Schools.
It is the coordinator’s hope that all the teams will be present this afternoon for a prompt 15:30hrs start.
